Kerrville-Schreiner Park is a 517-acre park with frontage on the Guadalupe River. Over 7.5 miles of hiking trails snake across the hilly, juniper-studded landscape. The park is noted for its abundant wildlife; it is not uncommon for visitors to spot white-tail deer, armadillos, wild turkeys, rabbits, or other wildlife within the first few minutes in the park. Birding opportunities exist for the endangered golden-cheeked warbler and black-capped vireo, especially from April to July.

Opportunities for camping, fishing, canoeing, bicycling, swimming, and picnicking are also available. Fish species in the Guadalupe include: crappie, perch, catfish and bass. Facilities include screened shelters, developed (RV) and tent campsites, one rental cabin, a dining hall, and a recreation hall. A playground, boat ramp, and lighted fishing pier are also provided.

Shannon's Notebook

The route Justin and I usually take for our hikes is the Blue Trail, a leisurely 3.2 mile hike with good wildlife viewing opportunities. Early in the morning, white-tailed deer often congregate in the developed camping area. After hiking, we usually return to park headquarters, located on the opposite side of Highway 173, and enjoy lunch in the riverside picnic area. The Guadalupe River is fairly deep and wide at the picnic area, offering opportunities for canoeing and swimming. A short trail follows the river from the picnic area, passing behind the screened shelters; several picnic tables are nestled in this area beneath towering bald cypress trees.
