Balcones Invasives Medina River Natural Area Workday

What? Volunteer Hours, Free Tacos and Advanced Training? YES!!!

Park staff in 4 wheel drive “Gators” get us in and out of the work area and experienced Salsa Squad members will be with you at all times. During the ride you can see the work we have already done to return the park to its natural state.

Hours: 8:30 – 11:30 AM. Please be on-site by 8:15 so we can ride the “Gators” to work areas by 8:30.

As always, watch the weather – we’ll send out a cancellation notice mid-afternoon on Monday if working at Medina River Natural Area seems problematic. If in doubt, call George Ozuna (210-669-9935) or Olivia Tapia (210-315-4707) on their cell phones.

DIRECTIONS to Medina River Natural Area:

Located at 15890 Highway 16 South in San Antonio.

It may be accessed via I-10 East, I-410-West and US-281-South or I-35 South to Highway 16 South.

Parking is available in the lot next to the staff building.

WHAT TO WEAR:  Long sleeve pants and shirts suitable for rough terrain and brushy areas with stickery plants, loose rocks, and assorted critters large and small, though they tend to keep their distance when they hear us coming.   Waterproof or work boots, gloves, are strongly recommended.  Snake leggings are helpful for going through the prickly brush. Some snake legging are also available for use. Water is essential & insect repellent will likely be needed. 

EQUIPMENT:  Equipment and materials needed for invasive control will be provided, but if you have favorite loppers, hatchets, saws, etc. bring them.
