Located on 437-acre Alvarado Park Lake, the 7-acre park provides opportunities for picnicking, birding, fishing, swimming, boating, and water sports.

Anglers will have opportunities to catch largemouth bass, channel catfish, white bass, and crappie.

Location

Located two miles southwest of Alvarado, Texas, in Johnson County. Take U.S. Highway 67 and continue three miles east of Interstate 35 West to the park entrance.

Hours

Open 7 days a week year-round from dawn to dusk.

No overnight camping is permitted.

Fees

There is no entrance fee for the park.

Situated on 18,700-acre Lake O’ the Pines, Alley Creek Lake offers opportunities for camping, picnicking, fishing, boating, swimming, water sports, birding, hiking, and wildlife viewing. The park has restrooms with showers, a playground, and a boat ramp with a dock.

Anglers can expect to catch largemouth, spotted, and white bass, crappie, catfish, and sunfish. Birdwatchers may observe bald eagle, as they are a frequent sight in fall and winter, less so in spring and summer.

Location

Alley Creek Park is situated on Lake O’ the Pines in the Piney Woods region of East Texas. The park is accessed just off FM 729 on the east side of the lake, 12 miles north of Jefferson, Texas.

Hours

Open 7 days a week year-round from 6 AM to 10 PM for day use activities.

Fees

A park entrance fee is charged per day–$1.00 per person or $4.00 (max) per vehicle. Campsite and other facility fees are in addition to the park entrance fee.

A boat launch fee of $3 per day is charged for boat access.

About the National Park

Big Bend exemplifies “wild Texas” — rugged and scenic grandeur; expansive and beautiful; rich in natural life and history. Located on the Texas-Mexico border, this 801,163 acre park features abundant backpacking, bicycling, camping, canoeing, whitewater rafting, hiking, and horseback riding opportunities.

From an elevation of less than 1,800 feet along the Rio Grande (Río Bravo) to nearly 8,000 feet in the Chisos Mountains, Big Bend includes impressive canyons, vast desert expanses, forested mountains, and the Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River which forms a natural, international boundary between the United States and Mexico.

Biological life thrives in the park, with more than 1,200 species of plants, more than 450 species of birds, 56 species of reptiles, and 75 species of mammals having been observed at the park.

Location

The National Park is location in the Big Bend region of West Texas. From Alpine, take TX 118 to Study Butte.

Hours

The National Park’s entrances are open 24 hours per day, all year. Entrance fee stations and visitor centers are closed after normal business hours (4 PM or 5 PM daily).
