About the State Historic SiteFort Griffin was established in 1867 and provided protection to area settlements until it was closed in 1881. Once a waypoint for cattle drives headed north, the Fort is now home to the Official State of Texas Longhorn Herd.
Visitors enjoy activities such as camping, fishing, hiking, wildlife observation and stargazing. Several full-hookup RV campsites and over two dozen tent campsites are available, as well as 5-acres accessible to primitive campers.
