About the County Park

A Texas State Park until the 1970s or so, Bandera County Park comprises 5,575 acres and is a popular retreat for fishing, boating, picnicking and water sports. (NOTE: Some maps still erroneously label the park "Avalon State Park.")

Located on the lake's Plum Creek Cove, the park's facilities include a boat ramp, swimming area and restrooms. Although there is no camping in Medina Lake County Park, there are a number of private guest cabins, guest ranches and private campgrounds in vicinity of the lake.

Medina Lake is best known among fishermen for its large yellow catfish. Medina Lake's 4,246-acres of clear water, sheltered by hills and limestone bluffs, are also haven for SCUBA divers.

Bass: Hybrid Striped, Largemouth, Smallmouth, White
Catfish: Blue, Channel, Flathead
Crappie: Black, White
Shad: Gizzard, Threadfin
Others: Bluegill, Walleye

Location

Medina Lake is located approximately 23 miles southeast of Bandera, Texas. Take State Highway 16 east to Pipe Creek and then F.M. 1283 south. Public access to the lake is available from Bandera County Park on the north side of the lake at the end of Park Road 37 in Plum Creek Cove.

The nearest major Texas cities are: Austin, Corpus Christi, Del Rio, Laredo, San Antonio

Hours

The park is open seasonally for day use activities only.

September to May: Open weekends only (Saturday & Sunday) from 8 AM to 8 PM.
May (Memorial Day weekend) through August: Open 7 days a week from 7 AM to 8 PM.

Fees

A park entrance fee is charged per day. Contact the park for specific fee information.

Jet ski, boat launch and other facility fees are in addition to the park entrance fee.
