About the National Recreation Area

Amistad National Recreation area is located near the Texas-Mexico border in Del Rio. The Amistad Reservoir covers 67,000-acres and includes 540 miles of shoreline on the U.S. side of the border. A portion of the Reservoir extends into Coahuila, Mexico.

While boating, fishing and other water-related activites -- such as SCUBA diving, swimming, tubing and waterskiing -- are especially popular, numerous outdoor activities are available. Opportunities exist for bicycling, birding, camping, hunting, hiking and picnicking. Wildlife observation is also popular, with opportunities to view javelina, white-tailed deer and Western diamondback rattlesnake.
