Nestled next to the cool, cypress-shaded Frio River and towering stone cliffs, 1,420-acre Garner State Park is one of the most developed and heavily visited Texas state parks. Camping is particularly popular during the summer months in the park's more than five hundred available developed (RV) and tent campsites, screened shelters, and rental cabins with kitchen facilities. An 18-hole miniature golf course, grocery store, and paddle boat rental area, and concessions are available on a seasonal basis.

Six miles of hiking trails are available; swimming, picnicking, fishing, and canoeing are also popular. Wildlife watchers may see white-tail deer, armadillos, wild turkeys, geese, and songbirds. Bicycling is permitted on paved roads only, unless otherwise noted. To avoid park overcrowding, try not to schedule visits for summer or holiday weekends. Reservations are highly recommended.

Visits to Garner State Park in the off-season, particularly during weekdays, provide a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere. This tranquility is a contrast to the crowding the park experiences during the summer and holidays.
Wildlife includes turkey vulture, ducks and geese that wade and wander along the Frio River. Majestic bald cypress trees, among other species, grace the park and provide an excellent respite from the Texas heat.

Location

From Uvalde, travel north on Highway 83. The park is located ten miles north of Concan on Park Road 29.

Hours

Open 7 days a week year-round from 8:00AM to 10PM for day use activities.
NOTE: During periods of peak visitation, such as holidays and weekends, the park quickly fills to capacity -- all available parking spaces become filled. This forces the park to close, sometimes as early as 11 AM. Visitors who are turned away are encouraged to visit other area parks or return after 5 PM, when the park reopens. However, campers with reservations are granted entry at any time.

Check for restricted park access before any trip. When controlled public hunts are in progress, general access is not permitted.

Fees

A park entrance fee is charged per day -- $5 per person for adults 13 years of age and older, or $3 per person if camping overnight. (Texas residents age 65 or older pay only $3 per person.)

Campsite and other facility fees are in addition to the park entrance fee.

Note: Learn about the $60 Texas State Parks Pass which exempts passholders, and the passengers in their vehicle, from the entrance fees at all Texas State Parks.
