Eisenhower Park
San Antonio, Texas

OutsideHub.com Partner
Eisenhower Park covers 317 acres of typical Texas Hill Country vegetation in northwest San Antonio. Offering 5 miles of well-marked hiking trails, including two wheelchair-accessible trails (Cedar Flats & Yucca trails), the park is popular among both hikers and joggers. The park is for pedestrians only -- no bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards or scooters are permitted.

Picnic tables and bar-b-que grills, restrooms and a playground are available for family outings. Several pavilions (including the largest, the Harris Mass Picnic facility,) are available by reservation; primitive campsites may also be reserved. Call (210)207-3120 for reservations and availability.

A wooden observation tower offers a view of the surrounding landscape, including nearby Friedrich Wilderness Park and -- on a clear day -- the San Antonio skyline on the horizon. Wildlife such as white-tail deer, armadillos, raccoons, skunks and other wildlife may be spotted, particularly in the early morning or around dusk.

Shannon's Notebook

Most hikers will want to avoid the first portion of the Hill View Trail which runs directly along the fenceline bordering a neighboring rock quarry. If you do mistakenly follow this route, you can divert to a short, paved spur trail and rejoin the Hill View Trail in a more hilly and wooded locale. Justin and I have hiked the Red Oak, Cedar Flats, and Yucca trails, and we recommend them all for enjoyable, leisurely day hikes. Portions of the natural trails are steep and rocky, but rope rails are provided for stability.
