Located on the eastern edge of the "Lost Pines" region, 1,016-acre Buescher State Park is a tranquil wooded park with numerous recreation possibilities. Cyclists enjoy the hilly, 13-mile paved scenic road which links Buescher with neighboring Bastrop State Park. Over 7.7 miles of hiking trails wind through the park's dense pine-oak woodlands. Additional recreation activities include swimming, picnicking, and wildlife observation. Developed (RV) and primitive tent campsites, screened shelters, a recreation hall, and group shelter are available. A children's playground is also available.

A stocked lake provides opportunities for fishermen to land catfish, bass, crappie, perch, and rainbow trout. The lake also attracts a diversity of bird life, including pied-billed grebes, mallards, redheads, and canvasbacks; over 250 bird species have been recorded in the park.

Shannon's Notebook

Justin and I visit Buescher each time we visit nearby Bastrop State Park. Since Buescher is on the fringe of the Lost Pines region, it lacks as many dense stands of pines as its neighbor. However, the park's lake attracts significant bird life, making it a worthwhile stop for birders and photographers. As a less-visited park, Buescher also offers ideal wildlife viewing opportunities, including white-tail deer, raccoons, opossums, squirrels, and armadillos.
