Product Description Introducing Kindle™ Three years ago, we set out to design and build an entirely new class of device—a convenient, portable reading device with the ability to wirelessly download books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers. The result is Amazon Kindle. We designed Kindle to provide an exceptional reading experience. Thanks to electronic paper, a revolutionary new display technology, you’ll find reading Kindle’s screen is as sharp and natural as reading ink on paper—and nothing like the strain and glare of a computer screen. Kindle is also easy on the fingertips. It never becomes hot, and is designed for ambidextrous use so both “lefties” and “righties” can read comfortably at any angle for long periods of time. We wanted Kindle to be completely mobile and simple to use for everyone, so we made it wireless. No PC and no syncing needed. Using the same 3G network as advanced cell phones, we deliver your content using our own wireless delivery system, Amazon Whispernet. Unlike WiFi, you’ll never need to locate a hotspot. There are no confusing service plans, yearly contracts, or monthly wireless bills—we take care of the hassles so you can just read. With Whispernet, you can be anywhere, think of a book, and get it in one minute. Similarly, your content automatically comes to you, wherever you are. Newspaper subscriptions are delivered wirelessly each morning. Most magazines arrive before they hit newsstands. Haven’t read the book for tomorrow night’s book club? Get it in a minute. Finished your book in the airport? Download the sequel while you board the plane. Whether you’re in the mood for something serious or hilarious, lighthearted or studious, Kindle delivers your spontaneous reading choices on demand. We’re very proud to introduce Kindle and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. - The Amazon Kindle Team

Best Gift Ever November 21, 2009 Perian J. Webb (Davenport, IA) I gave my husband a Kindle for Christmas 2008. He has more electronics than anyone else I know. He thought he had them all until he opened his Christmas present and was shocked. He has told everyone that that was the BEST Christmas present he has ever gotten. I like the fact that the 30 books he has read this year I do NOT have to find a place to store them.
Woman of Certain Age Reviews 1st Gen Kindle November 20, 2009 B. ledieff Purchased 1st gen Kindle as all I wanted to do was read books and ease the wrist/hand pain - the pictures of book covers are bad, and the little wheel to move the "cursor" is tricky - that would be an item for improvement - the prices are wonderful. If one purchased ANY Kindle, please get the extra memory - I am a bibliophile and all the room for books is filling fast!
The Kindle 1 exceeded my expectations November 18, 2009 S. Seay (Florida, United States) I didn't really know what to expect. I have been pleasantly surprised with my Kindle. I Bought it refurbished ($159.00), it came in the same packaging as a new Kindle 1. The screen is very readable, the device is light, and easy to hold. I don't really like the placement of the NEXT/PREVIOUS page buttons, but I'm getting used to them. Money well spent.
Sharing November 16, 2009 Marsha P. Stricker I love my Kindle 2. The only complaint I have is that I would like to share books with other Kindle owners. A friend has a Kindle 1 and I would like to read some of her books without having to order it myself. Since Barnes and Noble is coming out with an electronic reader with sharing capabilities, this might be somethin Kindle would like to look into. Maybe you could charge a nominal fee for this service which would make it worthwhile for both amazon and kindle owners.

Kindle I November 16, 2009 Timothy Dean Mckee (Huntsville, AL USA) Friend told me about this as I am an avid reader. I thought it sounded hokey, I had my discount card at Books a Million. Then I wanted a book just out. I paid $24.99 (hardcover of course) to get it. I could have had it for $9.99. Besides, what am I going to do with all these paperbacks and hardbacks I've read?
