Poster: Shannon (see this users gallery) The Santa Elena Canyon's sheer 1,500 foot walls block out sunlight for much of the day, although summer temperatures in the canyon do still soar into the 100's. It was in the 70's during our mid-October (2001) visit. Big Bend National Park.
