As viewed from atop the ridge on the Rio Grande Village Nature Trail in Big Bend National Park. With our proximity to water, we heard owls, eagles, frogs and crickets daily. Stargazing at night was "exciting" -- bats would fly within inches of us, no doubt eating the mosquitos that would otherwise feast on our skin. (October 2001)
