The windmill at Dugout is one of two the National Park Service actively maintains at Big Bend National Park. The working winmill ensures the cottonwoods planted in the early 1900's continue to thrive. This "oasis" is a haven for birds and wildlife in the desert, as well as hikers seeking some shade.
