*** FROM THE EDITOR

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! No doubt many of you will spend at least some of the holiday weekend outdoors, either enjoying Texas bar-b-ques and picnics or overnight camping trips. However you spend the weekend, we hope you have a safe and wonderful time!

PS: My apologies for the newsletter is not going out until late in the month, once again. I've got a reminder programmed into my PDA (personal digital assistant), now! :)

*** SUMMER VACATION PLANNING

Now is the time to start making your summer vacation plans, especially if you plan on visiting some of Texas' most popular destinations.

Wild Texas is a hobby run by two Texas outdoors enthusiasts, rather than a state-funded or commercial tourism website. As such, we don't have some of the information crucial to your trip-planning. That's why we have compiled planning-related information in our Frequently Asked Questions, an excerpt of which appears below:

Question: "How can I reserve a campsite/rental cabin/screened shelter at a Texas State Park?"

Answer: You can reserve campsites and other facilities at Texas State Parks by phone, fax, or via the Internet. To register by phone, call the Central Reservation Center at (512)389-8900 between 9AM and 8PM Monday through Friday or from 9AM to noon on Saturdays. To register via the Internet, visit TPWD's "Making Reservations" page.

Question: "How can I obtain more information (maps, brochures, rates) about a specific Texas State Park?"

Answer: The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) has a wealth of information on their website, including a "Find a Park" section which offers detailed information on all 123 state- owned parklands, including information on lodging, entrance fees and activities.

For more information you can use to plan your summer trips to Texas parks, see the full text of our Frequently Asked Questions.
