*** WILDFLOWER WATCH 2001
With the Spring Equinox just a week away (March 20), it is time to
start scouting Texas wildflower viewing opportunities again. Thanks
to all the rain we have received the past several months, this year
could be one of the best ever for wildflowers! We have already
spotted impressive stands of wildflowers growing along US 281 on
the southside of San Antonio past Braunig and Calaveras lakes.
Check out our March 9 trip report for a few wildflower photos from
that visit:

From now until early May, you can call the Texas Department of
Transportation's toll-free wildflower hotline at 1-800-452-9292 for
current reports. Peak viewing is typically between mid-March and
mid-April.
*** RIO GRANDE VALLEY TRIP
In late February, Justin and I camped for two nights at Bentsen-Rio
Grande State Park in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. This was our
first visit to the region, but it won't be our last! We observed
beautiful sunsets, a variety of wildlife and several subtropical
bird species.

experience the park yourself.
