Wild Texas Newsletter -- February 1998
Wild Texas: Parks, Nature & Travel guide http://www.wildtexas.com/
*** Editor's Note
Welcome to the third issue of the Wild Texas
Newsletter! As soon as Justin gets his photos
back from the developer, we will post our
January 30-31, 1998, Guadalupe River State Park
trip report. We camped overnight in the park
and awoke at 4 AM to flashes of lighting and
the patter of raindrops above our heads. We
enjoyed the heavenly show from the weatherproof
confines of our tent, although breaking camp
later that morning was a muddy mess!
*** Valentine's Day Ideas
Are you tired of giving/receiving chocolates
and heart-shaped candies for Valentine's Day? Do
you desire something new and different to share
with your sweetie this year? Well, you are in luck!
Valentine's Day conveniently falls on a Saturday
this year, making it an ideal time to pack a picnic
lunch and visit one of our state's beautiful parks
or natural areas. Take a leisurely hike together,
go wildlife watching, or make reservations and camp
overnight. If you have children or grandchildren,
you can even make a family day out of it.
Don't know what park you might like to visit? No
problem, just visit the Wild Texas Parks Directory
and select a city for profiles of parks within a
200 mile radius. Our park profiles include
everything you need to know to plan a park visit,
including entry fees, directions, and weather
information.

*** Coming Soon -- Backyard Birdwatching
Justin and I are both avid birders, meaning we
enjoy observing and identifying bird species in the
wild. However, since we can't get to the parks as
often as we might like, the habit of backyard
birdwatching has also attracted us. We both have
a half dozen or so birdfeeders set up at our
respective homes, attracting species such as
Northern mockingbird, Northern cardinal, tufted
titmouse, American goldfinch, and golden-fronted
woodpecker.
Recognizing that most of you are just like us--
avid nature lovers with a limited amount of time to
get outdoors--we are searching for ways to bring
nature to you. Our first project is a new Backyard
Birdwatching section for Wild Texas that will help
you begin attracting bird species to your home.
Expect to see this new feature on the site in early
spring.
