| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description For those who dont want to necessarily burn the retinas out of the nocturnal animals that get in the way, but still need a sharp, bright light loaded with features in a flyweight package, theres the Seca 400. A carefully engineered reflector delivers an ample 400 lumens of illumination, a super-lightweight 3-cell battery gives up 2.5 hours of high output runtime with a snappy 1.75 hours to recharge, and the entire system weighs a scant 380 grams while still retaining all the features of the bigger Seca lights. Sometimes, less is more. Features Cruise & Race Modes. Cruise mode cycles through High, Medium, Low and Flash sequentially. When it's time to get your speed on, switch to Race mode using a two-second push and hold (starting with the light powered off). Race mode skips the Medium and Flash modes, allowing you to conserve battery power on the climbs while keeping the High setting just a click away for the descents.

| Customer Reviews: [...] gives it 4.5 thumbs up! November 13, 2009 Tyler Benedict (Greensboro, NC) For $[...], you're getting a high quality light from a company with solid history. It's everything the average XC mountain biker needs for average XC night riding and the occasional 12- or 24 hour racer could do just fine with it. It's upgradable, lightweight and bright. Evan's and my opinions contradict each other on both beam pattern and the weight of the light head. Generally speaking the beam pattern is good, but could stand to be just a bit broader, especially for more technical trails or bombing downhill. If you're just getting into night riding or looking to upgrade without blowing the bank, the Seca 400 is a good bet for durability and quality even if it does skew slightly higher on the dollars per lumen scale. Powerful and effective light January 12, 2009 Justin Moore (San Antonio, TX USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased the Seca 400 for use on a bicycle I use for commuting to/from work three days a week. Since I leave very early to avoid the worst traffic, quite a bit of my riding is at night. There are also very dark sections of my 9-mile ride to work.
At full power, the 400 lumens of light output allows you to fully illuminate the road ahead - much like a car's headlights. I use the full power setting on the darkest sections of my ride.
At medium power, 200 lumens is still very bright and useful. Most of my riding is at this power setting since I want a reserve of battery energy when I ride home in the winter (which lands me in the dark WITH heavy vehicular traffic).
Even at low power, 100 lumens provides good illumination.
During daylight hours I'll use the flash setting to maximize my visibility.
This is a great light with a small battery pack and a very easy to use mounting system that holds well even through the worst bumps on the road.
I don't believe, however, that most bike commuters would ever need more than 400 lumens on the road so this light vs. the Seca 700 is probably a better choice for commuters.
