About Planet Bike
In November of 1996, Planet Bike was founded in Madison, Wisconsin. In many ways, Planet Bike began as a social experiment that dedicated itself to doing business in a different way. Instead of being just another company that develops and sells products with profit as its end goal, Planet Bike wanted to help bring about positive change for people, their communities, and the environment.

Despite being a simple machine, the people at Planet Bike have always believed that the bicycle has great potential to help improve the world and the lives of the people in it. From the start, they have embraced an alternative corporate purpose which seeks to help get more people on bicycles by making communities friendlier places for the self-propelled. By donating 25% of company profits to causes that promote and facilitate bicycle usage, Planet Bike hopes to make an impact.

Social experiments aside, Planet Bike was born from the heart of a cyclist with a goal of making innovative, high quality, and practical bicycle accessories. Simply put, they strive to design and develop the best bicycle products in the world. In the company's short ten year history, they have made important product innovations within the bicycle industry. Advancements include the 4-line computer which is now a standard in the industry and the world's first self-contained HID light. Not bad for a company that ten years ago started as a one man operation. Today, while still a small company, Planet Bike continues to evolve and improve their product line with the goal of always striving to build accessories that make it easier for people to ride their bikes. Since 1996, Planet Bike's financial support of the grassroots bicycle movement has totaled $500,000. By 2010, they have made a goal to donate $1 million to organizations that are dedicated to making America a friendlier place for cyclists.

4 out of 5 stars I bought one...I wish I had bought three...Excellent rear helmet light   March 20, 2010
K. Kelly (San Francisco)
I was looking for a small, bright rear light for my Bell Volt Bike Helmet and I took a chance that the Blinky Superflash would somehow fit in one of the back crannies of that rather alien-looking helmet.

The Blinky Superflash did fit on the back of my helmet, albeit sideways and attached with a couple cable ties...And it is SUPER effective being up that high.

My only regret is not buying two more to attach to either side of my bike's rear cargo rack. Two Blinky Superflash units on either side of the rear rack plus one on the back of one's helmet...That's a configuration of safe bike lane riding at night.

One star off for Planet Bike not offering an optional universal ball joint clamp/plate mount so the Blinky Superflash can be clipped to/removed from a seat post. Shame on you for dropping the ball on that! :P

3 out of 5 stars Good value for the price. Not the brightest... Dinotte is.   March 11, 2010
G. Powell (Seattle, WA USA)
I have bought three of these, one for my bike as a backup and one each for my kids bikes. I'm a regular all weather commuter and my prime tail lights are Dinotte 400R. I have this one incase I forget to charge my other system as a backup system can be life it self. The kids only ride a little after dark and never in the rain/sleet/slush. As a single unit it's not bad, but cars have to be right up on you in city lights at night to see it. On a dark road it does stand out. The Dinotte is 400 lumins and looks like an aid vehicle when it's going full on. But the cost for all those lumins is 8x this one. As a regular commuter that's worth it. But whether that one light would outshine 8 of these, well yes it would and I don't have that many places to mount 8 lights! But if you only ride in the dark some, and wear a reflective vest like Surveyor Safety Vest w/ Zipper Front, Ultra-CoolTM Mesh - Class 3 - High Visibility - Medium - Lime - ML Kishigo you'll be fine... maybe. At least until you can save enough dough to get some real wattage.

5 out of 5 stars Good Blink   March 11, 2010
M. Brockriede (Central Coast, CA)
This little guy sure is blinky. The on/off button is easy to find, and installation and shipping were both super quick. Planet Bike donates 25% of their profits to "grassroots organizations that facilitate the use of bicycles." 25%?! That's a lot. Whether you are a dedicated cyclist or just like to take her out for a spin in nice weather, supporting this company supports the bicycling community at large.

5 out of 5 stars Great light!!   March 9, 2010

Like other reviewers have stated, this is a great light. My wife and I ride our bikes frequently around Santa Monica and Venice, often at night. We feel much safer knowing that it's almost impossible for cars approaching behind us to not notice us.
