Poor product February 5, 2010 Kurt Helphinstine 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This lighter is of very poor quality. It broke within 2 minutes of first use.
Awesome lighter, really is waterproof February 3, 2010 C. Tuan (Pennsylvania) I got this lighter with a lot of anticipation and wasn't let down. It performs well and one of my only complaints is that its flame burns so efficiently, it's almost invisible. Most importantly it is waterproof, and to test this I filled a bucket full of water and put the lighter in there for a day. When I took it out of the water it worked fine. However, because the rubberized body is not actually adhered to the lighter itself except for a screw at the bottom, I did find water between the lighter and the lighter body. But this is relatively easy to clean by simply removing the body screw and drying off the body. However, I did manage to drop it into my toilet accidentally, while I was doing some household cleaning. My heart sank and I was worried it would never light again. But as I took it out, I realized that there was not much that could actually go wrong with a lighter if dropped in water. I was right. After I had dried out all the water I could by blowing it out with compressed air, I lit the flame with another lighter, and the flame was not a torch but rather a wider, less intense, blue flame, probably because the flame was not ignited at the valve. Anyhow, after letting the flame burn for about 5 minutes, it had dried enough to light. I was overjoyed. So now I really love this lighter, and I know that no matter what, it really is waterproof.
Works well for less than 10 seconds at a time January 18, 2010 HighAltitudeRockStar (Sunny San Diego) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this lighter for emergency use starting fires (I do alot of climbing/backpacking). When I first got it I played with it adjusting the flame and whatnot and found that the metal button used to ignite it gets so hot after about 10 seconds its painful (even on a low setting!). I could also smell something like burning rubber/plastic coming from the inside so for kicks I used the medium setting with a glove for about 30 seconds and the parts around the button actually started melting!!! Luckily I got it at an REI store and they have the best return policy. For cigarettes this would work fine but for any use that requires continuous flame its just too powerful for its own construction!
Stormproof Lighter January 17, 2010 Jaimie Yerina (Malta, NY) I purchased this as a gift for Christmas and it was a hit. As a testimony to this product, I washed it with the laundry (by mistake of course, because someone doesn't empty his pockets) and we thought it was ruined. It worked! This product stands up to the elements of nature and a overzealous housewife, it gets 5 stars in my book!
Too much fuel, too little flame December 29, 2009 Richard Collette (Connecticut USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This thing chugs fuel. I cannot understand why because it only generates the smallest of flames. It may not blow out and it may be rugged, but as a camper, I want a lighter that's going to carry a couple weeks of fuel and can help in wet light scenarios, not something that dies after a few uses and is difficult to use.
