Product Description All Windproof lighters are not created equal! Only Windmill lighters have earned the right to be called Stormproof. Windmill lighters use a platinum (white gold) catalyzer coil that provides continuous ignition of the gas vapors, even in 70-80mph winds. Refillable with premium or triple-refined butane gas--the cleanest and hottest burning fuel available--Windmill lighters burn at nearly 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit, producing a clean, hot flame nearly invisible in outdoor light. The Piezo-electric ignition system is good for over 30,000 ignitions and no flint or batteries! Easy to operate and easy to refill, Windmill lighters have saved lives--reliably igniting fires, even in harsh conditions and at temperatures as low as -40 degrees F. The Windmill Delta Series lighters feature a tough, elastomer armor case that makes them incredibly impact resistant for the most demanding of outdoor challenges. An oversize fuel window allows quick, easy checks on fuel status, and a stainless steel wire closure ensures that your Delta will stay watertight even if it falls from your pack or pocket. Windmill lighters are so amazing, and so reliable, they carry a world-famous lifetime guarantee: if it should ever fail, simply return it to Essential Gear and it will be restored to first-class mechanical condtion free of charge.

Best Lighter I have found October 17, 2009 Nelson (Gaithersburg, MD USA) I have had this lighter for only a short while and it works great, every time. A fill-up lasts 2 to 3 weeks. You can not see the flame, even at night, so be careful. Windy days are no problem. Very high quality construction. I expect this lighter will last for years.
Good lighter for 3-day pack October 9, 2009 R. Keller (Vegas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Picked this up to add to my recently updated 3-day pack. Not a smoker, so its use it intended for fire starting only (along with the backup magnesium block and container of WP matches) and in testing it worked rather well. Dials to various levels nicely. Rugged construction. Priced right. I'll be ordering another one for my light hiking packs.
Not a good cigar torch. October 5, 2009 Joseph A. Buono (Orange County, NY) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was looking for a good butane lighter for my cigars, and a friend recommended this one. My first shipment was defective: the fuel feed was uneven, and all of the gas leaked out overnight. I exchanged it for a new one, which works.
Pros: It looks impressive from a distance, and it probably won't break if you accidentally sit on it or something.
Cons: The wind won't blow it out, but if there's more than the gentlest of breezes the flame will be pathetic, and you won't be able to toast your cigars. Next, the thumb switch heats up extremely quickly, so my fingers are roasting long before I get a good coal going on the cigar. Lastly, this thing drinks fuel; I have to refill it after every third or fourth cigar. I don't see the point of 'survival gear' which requires you to carry two or more cans of butane gas if you're planning on being in the woods more than two or three days.
Conclusion: this is probably a fine cigarette lighter, but it's not so good for cigars or campfires.
Finally October 1, 2009 Kwan L. Lowe (Florida, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I went through five different lighters trying to find a replacement for my discontinued Coleman lighter. I tried the Brunton Firestorm Stormproof, Colibri Firebird, and some other moderately priced and low end butane torch type lanterns (e.g. Penlinda). This is the only one that comes close to being a torch and a proper replacement for the Coleman.
After filling with Lucienne butane, it lit *immediately* with a strong torch flame. The flame held for as long as I held the trigger and there was no heat spillover at all to my thumb (a problem with the Firebird). The flame worked sideways, upside down and all other orientations which was important as I'm using it not only to start regular campfires but to do some minor ornamental welding.
Search around because the pricing varied widely on this lighter (up to $30 difference).
Don't Buy September 30, 2009 Brian R. Smith (Iowa) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have now recieved 2 of these lighers both failed within a day. I used the premium butane they recommeded, but the lighers only light a few times then failed to light. You would be better off with a disposable ligher.
