TETON Sports Scout3400 Internal Frame Backpack (Mecca Orange) October 31, 2009 A. Yuan (LA) Bought this for my 11 yrs old school's 5 day science camp.
We're in warm LA but the camp is way in the mountains where there's possibilities of snow. So beside a 25 degree sleeping bag i packed extra fleece for precaution.
Along with the hiking shoes and sweaters and extras and basics, i have to say everything fitted in and could be taken out fairly easy. Oh, and it looked ok on a person, even for a fussy middle school girl.
Well worth the money.

I took this bag to Mt. Whitney - hiked up to Trail camp with it and back. I think that's quite a beating for a bag like that.
Pros:
- Cost. Probably the best deal for $52
- Quite sturdy and the sleeping bag compatment helps with packing the bag even better.
- Lots of pockets
- Good lower back support
- Strong back support buckle/clip
- Quality synthetic fabric should last forever.
- Compact. Keeps the load together very well.
Cons:
- The clips/buckles are not good quality plastic. The chest attachment slipped out of place on the very first trip. Granted, my bag was like 40 lb and I was putting it to test at that weight in that terrain, by placing a good portion of the weight on the chest but that's what these bags are supposed to do.
- 3500 cu.in is good but for longer trips 4500-5500 is nicer.
- Middle, upper back support is good but not as good as other bags that have a strong aluminium frame on the back.
Overall, it's a great product for the price. If you are going to DEPEND on it, meaning that if it broke, you'd be stranded in the middle of a long hiking trip, then I don't feel confident enough on this bag. I'd pay the extra money to get something that will give me the peace of mind of not breaking at all. Unfortunately, such bags are easily at least 2-3 times the cost of this bag. For expeditions, not too heavy loads, camping trips, etc. where you have a vehicle you can place this bag or have a backup option (store close by to buy a replacement as a worst case scenario), I think this is awesome.
Great pack for a small woman September 14, 2009 Rosebud (Bryant, Seattle USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'M 4'11". I have big problems finding packs that are comfortable for me. I carried this pack for two weeks through Guatemala, where wheeled luggage isn't a good option.
The pack work excellently. I carried 26 - 36 lbs, depending on how much liquid I was packing. The shoulder straps are very easily adjustable for different height people, and the different pockets made it easy to find and store things. I particularly liked and used the handy rain cover. I never ran out of room and could have easily carried more junk...
This pack is a screaming deal, which makes it even better.
Nice Pack September 9, 2009 Idoru69 (NY United States) As others have commented wicked number of straps etc, make this bag very versatile. The shoulder and waist straps are well made and adjustable for a good fit. It's a lightweight but sturdy bag due to the light frame. Generally strong construction, though I noticed one of the stops on the bungee material came off. It was a quick fix. Holds a good amount of clothing, etc, but not overly big. There is a pass through from the main area to the bottom access area. For the price, highly recommended.
Good buy July 6, 2009 N. lyani powers 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Great buy took this with me to the rainforest for two weeks my stuff stayed reasonably dry and the pack was comfy. my only complaint was the adjustable back length straps had to be secured whenever i took it off because it was velcro. But t was good and strong durable recommnd it. And for the price you cant beat it.
